Getting plaster/dust out of wooden floors

During the course of our house rennovation, the new oak floors (already stained/finished) went down before the work was completely finished (I had asked for floors to go down last!). As a result we now have plaster dust engrained into a lot of the wood floors.

Simple cleaning with wood soap spray hasn't worked well. I am afraid of using a product too strong in case it ruins the floors. I also don't want to scrub too hard and wind up lightening the floors in certain areas.

Any suggestions on products or methods appreciated, thanks.

Hi there
you can buy a heavy duty wooden floor cleaner but it will still take time plaster dust is very slow to get rid of but it will go after a few washes. are you sure it is just dust and not wet plaster that has dried.

Thanks for your reply.

The walls were skimmed, so no wet plaster was used. Just that fine white dust is everywhere and really gets into the wood grains.

Can you recommend any heavy duty wooden floor cleaner?

We have the same problem on some black slate floors too, I guess I will just keep scrubbing them and hope for the best.

Thanks a million

If you agreed with the builder that the floors were to go down last why isn't he responsible for it?

Leo, It would seem that I've no idea how they did the plastering! They plastered the walls and were able to paint the next day...not sure what kind of plastering that is but that white dust is everywhere.

lightswitch, I see your point. To be honest at this point I just want to make sure it's done, and done properly, so I am looking into this myself!

are you sure they skimmed the walls ? if so there is no way they would be ready for painting the following day - especially given the damp climate we've had over the past while.

Painting over on the next day and a fine white dust, sounds like a lot of filling and sanding was done.

Get the builder to sort it out.

I use products which contain orange oil on the wooden floors - it brings back there natural shine as well as cleaning them. You can buy them in wipes which are really handy
