Getting on site of new estate

We're just about to sign contracts on a property in a new estate and are buying off plans. There's a property of the same house type that we're buying already completed and we would really love to get a look at that before we sign contracts. Would it be the norm for foremen to allow purchasers on site to view newly completed properties?

It wouldn't be the norm at all. And contractors would pretty much be backed up by Health and Safety legislation with regards to keeping people off a working site.

That said, as with everything in life, if you find the foreman, have a nice word in his ear, maybe you'll catch him on a good day. And don't forget to tip if he does let you in.

And if the foreman doesn't allow you on site just go there after working hours.
Sites generally aren't that secure, it's easy enough to open and close one of those mesh barriers.
Take a poke around one of the houses on site that haven't had all the doors and windows installed.
You'll get an idea of what you can expect build and layout-wise.
Also, surely there is a showhouse of the same type you are buying?

Thanks for the replies. I just rang the foreman and whilst he wasn't overjoyed that I had rung him, he agreed to let us on to see the same house type as hours. The showhouse isn't ready and it won't be the same house type as ours anyway so that would have been no good to us. And there's security on the site after hours so we couldn't have entered ourselves. The foreman seemed nice enough, we got what we wanted. Thanks again.
