Hi guys,
I currently own my home but would like to put my long term gf on the deeds. Is this possible?
Do I just approach a solictor to start the ball rolling? Is it an expensive task?
Many thanks

if there is no mortgage then it should be no problem, but for the full procedure i'd contact a solicitor.

Entirely possible. The solicitor draws up the deed transferring one half of your property to gf. S/he will also advise you that you will pay CGT on the disposal and your gf will pay CAT and (possibly) stamp duty on the acquisition of one half of the property.

You might consider marriage - there are no tax implications on the transfer of assets between spouses.

Senna,
I only have the house a few years so yes there is a mortgage. Does this make it difficult when her name will not be on the mortgage?

Ah, so you don't own the house! As in the lending institution must consent to any change in ownership. Your lending institution will have to agree and they will have to join in the deed. They will make it a condition that gf joins into the mortgage.

Marriage is still an option for all the tax reasons noted above.
