Getting Home Insurance for unoccupied house

I'm currently in the proces of buying a 2nd home with a view to doing it up and moving into it or renting it out in a few months.

when I rang around for insurance quotes i discovered that a lot of companies wont insure the house as its going to be unoccupied while its being done up.the rest quoted me a loaded premium of double what it would be if occupied.
I cant draw down the mortgage until I can provide proof that its insured. Does anyone know of any companies that provide reasonable rates for unoccupied homes ?

thanks

ask lender to provide insurance. Most of the banks can arrange. you can always change at renewal time.

Have you asked your current insurer to quote?
