I have a cordless phone , used previously in Germany but I cant get a dial tone here . I have found the manual on the internet and tried switching from "impulse" to "multifrequency" , what parameters do I need to change to get it to work here ?

Thanks Clubman , this rings a bell , I had to get cables rewired before from German to Belgian system . Will look for that cable . Thanks a Million.

I had a similar problem with a Medion desktop PC from Aldi. The built in modem only worked with the phone cable supplied with the PC, and not a longer Irish cable. It turned out the modem port was wired differently than "usual" (The Medion PC is great though. You can use a standard Irish extension cable with their modem cable. I just wanted to note this here in case it catches anyone else out!).
