Hi, we're honeymooning in Sorrento in August (we're getting married in lake garda and then flying to Naples and on to Sorrento for honeymoon) but for the return journey, I want to fly back to Cork from Rome.

So, to get from Sorrento to airport in Rome, is best thing to do go via train station in Naples, get train to Rome (centre location) and then the Leonardo de Vinci express to airport?

From doing my research online today that looks like best and cheapest option but does sound a bit long and I'm wondering is there any easier (reasonable) option????

Hi Shopaholic. Was is Sorrento last year on my honeymoon. Traveled from Rome to Sorrento and vice versa by train. I think the non-stop service was about an hour and half from Naples to Rome. I think this was bit expensive compared to the standard train but its better than stopping at every stop. It would take alot longer with the standard train. It has allocated seating so you will have a seat. Also you would be better off booking the non-stop train in advance. This can be done from most travel shops.
The local train service from Sorrento to Naples is called Circumvesuviana. The train is like the London underground but it does the job. Quite cheap from what I can remember. I think this takes about half an hour but you would want to check this. The station in Sorrento is about a 5 min walk from centre of the town. Enjoy Sorrento. It's a bit commercialised but the rest of the Amalfi coast is lovely. Try to get across to Positano if you can. How are you traveling from Naples airport to sorrento?

I agree with Aidomoss. Did the trip last year and it was great. Train from Rome to Naples in 90 minutes or so. Lovely trains - very comfy. We booked in advance online with Trentitalia I think its called - they often have special offers like buy a ticket, get a free one!! Worked out great value for us - Duo per uno or something like that! In Termini Station you have to find the Leonardo Express so allow a bit of time as we found it took longer than we thought to find the right platform but if you take your time, it should be fine but just with all our luggage, it wasn't easy and two kids in tow! http://www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html Think you can buy tickets online for the airport trip too - do if you can, the queues were huge for us and we missed our planned train because of that!!

The Termini train station is huge (about 30 platforms) but extremely well run and very well signposted. You'll have absolutely no difficulty finding the airport (leonardo) express which leaves evry 30 mins or so.

The station has several multi-lingual self-service machines at which you can buy a ticket. Remember to validate it before you board at one of the many organge machines. I neglected to do so and had a bit of a "conversation" with one of the inspectors who eventually let me off the fine she initially wanted to impose.

Hithere, sorry I couldn't log in earlier, was away with work, that's great advice, many thanks to all!!!! Very good advice, yes the website for booking trains seems to be very user friendly!
