My car due for its NCT next few weeks
I got it serviced back in Sept
Should I just go and get the NCT done or is it advisable to have the garage do a pre NCT check/service on it before bringing it for NCT?

I think it's better to just take a chance and get anything that shows up fixed afterwards, unless you feel it really needs a service but unless you have done loads of mileage since I doubt it. My car failed recently on a small thing which would not have been picked up at a standard service, it had not been serviced in a year, very little mileage, passed on re test and ironically broke down the week after and is basically scrap.
Just check the really obvious stuff yourself (tyres,lights etc) and remove any covering to the wheel nuts.(I failed on this!) Have your documentation in order.
