This is my first post !..Great site !. At the end of the year I am moving to London for at least 4 years with my girlfriend. Since we are going to be working /living over there we are hoping to buy an apartment in London.
My questions are :
it is possible for a non uk national to get a UK mortgage?
what are the pitfalls ?
What do they look for (is it much the same as over here ) ?
Will my property here in Ireland work for me or against me when getting a UK mortgage?
Any tips or info or good UK agents to get in contact with would be really appreciated !!
I can highly recommend both www.kingswaymortgages.co.uk and www.charcol.co.uk - I worked for the latter for eight years and the former is made up of ex-colleagues from the latter (if that makes sense?!).
Apart from knowing people who work at both companies I have no connection, etc.
Getting a mortgage in the UK is pretty much exactly the same process as here, i.e. three months salary slips, proof of residence, national insurance number (which you will need anyway to work in the UK). We did the same as you only in reverse and our house in the UK didn't have any effect on the mortgage we could have as long as we proved that we had rent payments covering the mortgage and that should we have no tenants we could cover both mortgages.
