Getting a car key cut - not an emergency

I can't find my spare key for my Audi A3 but I do have my main one.

I don't want to find myself needing an emergency service.

Can I get a key cut at my leisure?

Most of the websites seem to be aimed at emergency cases.

I tried these guys, but annoyingly, after filling in the information for a quote, they say that they will be in touch.

Most good locksmiths provide the service. Think it has to be either a main garage dealership or registered locksmiths for security reasons.

So, is it just like a house key? I walk in with my existing key, and they copy it?

I have the original key code.

Most keys these days have a chip embedded in them that also needs to be programmed. This talks to your immobiliser and allows your car to start. Car keys are usually a specialist thing and its not something that you will get cut in your local Woodies.
 
Go to your local Audi garage and ask them to order you a new key. Simplest method and you know that it is guaranteed to work.

I went into a locksmith today and he told me that he did not cut Audi keys.

He recommended these guys https://www.centralkey.com/docs/Locat/LocatGMap.html

He suggested that a lot of the people who claim to cut keys for cars don't do it accurately enough. It did surprise me on one website that they gave a one year guarantee.

I will try Audi as well. I had just assumed that they would be a crazy price.

Audi couldn't price it over the phone but said it would be "at least €400 to €500".

Centralkey told me that it would be about €60 to €70 but their key would not open the central locking. (Which would be fine for a spare key)

They recommended https://lockdoctor.ie/car-keys-2/ who would call to the house and do it and give me the full working key. Their website explains the process. Over the phone, they said it would be about €100 for a non-remote key. €190 for a remote key. If I get stuck on the side of the road without a key, it would be about €290.

Annoying yes, but was hoping they would come back to you with what you needed including the price. Might be the time of year is all I can think of as to why they've not responded.

I've used their Swords branch. Cost me €160 for a new key for what is a rare model, had to leave the car and key with them for a couple of hours. Main dealer wanted £400 (yes sterling). If you don't get this done and end up losing the other key, you will be looking at a lot larger bill.
