General Electric stock and shares confusion

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two General Electric stocks/shares ?

GEC
and
GE

All i can find out are that both are General Electric Co (GEC) and one floats on the london stock exchange and one on the US stock exchange (GE) , is this information correct?

Second issue, a parent has stocks in GEC but share certificates are missing, what can they do to get them reissued? they are with goodbody I think... apologies, but nobody in the family really understands the stock exchange and im finding it hard to wrap my head around but have been asked to try and help resolve my parents stock confusion.

After a bit of research,it appears that GEC sold of all its defence business,and invested the cash pile in telecommunications at the height of the dot com bubble .They were renamed Marconi,which went bust.
