moved into new house. there is a gas hob/electric oven. the hob was in need of cleaning and i removed the ring controls as there was grease under them. now the hob doesnt work. it will spark when u press the control but there is no smell of gas. i hv never used gas hob before. the gas heating is working. have i done something when i was cleaning? or do i need to get bord gas out?

Trace the gas pipe from the hob, and see if there's a valve somewhere along the line thats switched off..

There should be a needle size hole near the burner, see if it is blocked

As the hob is built in to the worktop i cannot see any pipes goin to the hob.

The needle sized holes do not appear to be blocked

Any other advice would be appreaciated

Mine is set into worktop too but in press under it there is a cut out on back wall of press where the pipes run behind the presses and there is a valve there to turn on the gas flow.

EDIT Reread original post where you say the gas heating is working hence unlikely that it has been cut off.

Well if cant find the gas pipe going into a hob, then maybe you should call a plumber.
