Gas Heating: On low all day VS. On Demand

Hi

A little bird told me that it was more efficient and cost effective to leave gas heating on all day at a low heat rather than come on and have it going full-blast for a few hours in the evening and in the morning.

Does anyone know if this could be true? I suppose it depends how much you use it in the evening and the morning....

I'm actually going to try it for a while and take a metre reading over a few days.

Should be easy enough to determine. Try it on low for a 24 hour period, taking a meter reading beforehand, next day take another reading and just use it on demand. 24 hours later take final reading. Calculate how many units you used each day and you should get a good idea.

Of course weather conditions and occupancy should be similar both days.
