Gas Boiler replacement: Price discrepencies

I'm confused about the price of a boiler replacement. If I go to a Bord Gais certified company, I typically get a quote of between 2900 and 3200 for 24KKw/80 btu unit.

If I price the boiler (GloWorm Flexicom HX is the one that these guys recommend), I can pick it up in the North of GBP 614 (EUR 718).

Now, I do also want to have the system cleaned, replace the pump, add a Magnclean and have the 'plumbing made good' and obviously finish up with a commissioning report. But even with all of that accounted for, I can't get ANYWHERE near EUR 3000.

What am I missing? Is this classic a ROI rip-off in action?

Yes I guess so.
You should be able to get a condensing boiler supplied and fitted for around €2000 at least even with the other work you need done.

How annoying is this though? We have a residents initiative to upgrade multiple boilers and there was NO question of a discount from the bord gais aligned companies (I'm repeating the company name in case anyone from there reads it, but I doubt it!)

I guess the best way to go is talk to a qualified fitter and get the gear seperately.

You'd think in the current climate that the customer would be king. Arrrrgghhhh! That's all I can say. I want to spend my money locally, it's business idiocy that will prevent me - more money to the UK coffers I guess.

What do u mean by BG 'alligned' companies??
BG registered companies are in no way alligned with BG as we are their competition!
and whatever price u get ur boiler for up north ur gas plumber should be able to get it cheaper than u can with trade discount. Also remember if u buy it up there it may effect your warranty should u have problems

the cost is in the supplys although the boiler which is usually around 1000 euro for a high efficency condensing boiler you have to consider the cost of copper pipe the cost of labour and the cost of fittings, lagging , system inhibitor, redrilling for the new flue and so on. all of which is required for a commisioning report the cost of a basic boiler change is approx 2000 euro and everything else after that is extra the pump will be included if you get a system boiler flushing of the system and making sound all your other plumbing takes time i would say anywhere between 2500 and 3000 euro is a very fair price

I just got a new condenser boiler fitted in a rental house for E2000.

All installations are not the same and very hard to compare like for like

The original post here wanted more than just boiler exchange from my reading of it

and have come across some very poor installs (u get what u pay for)

And u can't say I am biased as I do not do installation only service/repair so I see the cheap installations all the time as I am usually the one there powerflushing them, changing heat exchagers, rads, pumps etc from them!
