Garryowen: Vandalised Signposts

On a recent visit to Limerick I noticed that every single signpost which refers to "Garryowen Rugby Football Club" has been systematically (and neatly) vandalised. The word "rugby" (and the gaelic equivalent) has been blacked out.

Does anyone know what this is about?

There is a good story behind this.

The offical title of Garryowen is Garryowen FC not Garryowen RFC. The oldest rugby clubs in the country (pre 1890) I think are all called FC rather than RFC. I think some traditional Garryowen members wanted the clubs offical title on the signpost rather than the more common name in usage. I think there is less than 10 rugby clubs in the country who are FC rather than RFC, so it would be a matter of pride to members.

Lansdowne, Clanwilliam, Cork Constitution are just a few off the top of my head, who are also FC.

Peader,

that's excellent, I just looked up thier website and they are "Football Club" rather than "Rugby Football Club" ... we should have more useless facts like this on the board !! I will be boring the This post will be deleted if not edited to remove bad language out of a few people with this little nugget at the weekend.
