Hi there,

I'd like to get some of your opinions on garden furinture. I'd like to buy a table and six chairs. The table must be able to take a parasol. I want something that is low maintence. I don't want a wooden on as it has to be painted every year. I've seen the following table in Woodies:

The New Jersey 7 Piece Patio Set consists of:
1 x 157cm x 102cm Aluminium/Rattan Glass Table
6 x Aluminium/Rattan Chairs

499 Euro

Is this good value or is there better out there? (Where)
Could a cat tear/ destroy this type of material?

Thanks

You are right not to want wooden garden furniture. The set I got (also from Woodies) is beginning to disintegrate 2 1/2 years later...and all after 2 coats of paint! I can't comment on the set you want, but what I can say is I find Woodies pretty expensive, and if you shop about (NI, online etc.), you will definitely do a better deal than them.

Sorry for jumping onto your thread but if anyone knows a good website for buying garden furniture can they please share?

A bit of sun and there's a run on garden furniture. Will we ever learn?

I too would be interested in such a website.

Having just bought one medium sized tin of yacht varnish to redo the garden furniture for over 50 euro, I am heartily sorry that I didn't buy plastic or resin furniture or whatever it's called. There's some in Aldi at the moment which isn't too bad. In both the short run and the long run it'll work out cheaper with no maintenance.

I know the wood looks nice but...

I also bought a set a few years ago from Woodies- the ones with wooden spindles in the chair base and back and the chair base spindles just started to fall out at the end of the second summer season ( having been stored in the shed all winter). Rubbish quality.

got a flier in the door for B&Q, had a picture of a big round rattan lounger with canopy, asking price €959, same lounger in Next in Newry £449!, nearly choked, have seen some nice stuff in the Garden Centre at Newlands Cross, you might try there

Am looking for nice garden furniture too - something a bit of a step up from B&Q

I actually saw a set I liked locally at €699 and found it on a UK Garden Website for £349!!! Must investigate if they deliver from the UK.

They have Alexander Rose and some of the nicer brands

Havent bought yet, so can t say.

Newlands garden centre has lovely stuff (Alexander Rose, etc) but are expensive

After trying a number of wooden sets I have come to the conclusion that in this country only palstic/cast iron or aluminum sets will last in our weather

I saw a lovely set in Dunnes Stores the other day. It was all wooden (round table with 6 chairs) - with a lovely raised lazy Susan - looked great. Think that it was reduced to €599 ! Not sure if that included the parasol or not. They had lovely red/tangerine ones though.

Thinking of buying it for my back garden...if I ever have money again...

You can do it when you B&Q it. No affiliation to them but have cleaned up the last two years on sales they have on their garden furniture, they currently have another sale on well worth a trip!

I got some last year in Homebase and they have some good deals. Quick question for the people with Wooden furniture is it outside the whole time or do they put it in a shed for the winter?

I was in Four homes last week and noticed they had some great deals on garden furniture. I was tempted to buy myself but then the sun went in and has pretty much stayed there.
Pleanty of options for those who don't want wooden furniture.
