Garden Furniture......Put straight onto grass??

I am renting a newly built house. The back garden lawn is only approx 3 months old so is still quite soft and not set.

I would like to buy a table and chairs for the garden. I do not want to put these straight on the grass as I think the legs of the furniture would sink straight into the grass.

What are my options?

I have looked at ready made decking in Woodies. They have 2x1 m decking base with tiles attached for €85 each. I was thinking of buying 2 of these and putting the table and chairs on this.

Could I put this decking straight onto the grass?

Or is there anything cheaper that would look reasonably well that I could put the table and chairs on?

The landlord has already cleared it that im not to worry if some of the grass dies.

As I am only renting the property I do not want to spend a fortune but I would like to be able to sit out in the garden when the summer finally arrives!

I look forward to your advise.

Would the landlord object if you were to lay a small paved area on the grass which could be used for the furniture? I think it would be more practical and nicer than decking.

Rois, thanks for the reply. Would laying paving slabs be a big job? Would it be a case of digging up the grass area, levelling it with sand and then putting down the slabs?

Any other suggestions folks?

Hi there,

Just wondering if you found a solution to your problem?

I have the same issue....want to buy a really nice table and chair set but it would be going straight onto grass. We will be doing a job on the house in the next few years (including a new patio) so don't want to spend a fortune on it......
