I am guilty of using a mobile whilst driving - have 2 kits in my own car - had to use someone elses for two hours but hey - guilty so no arguments on that.
I sent my fixed offence notice including a cheque to Kilrush and it was returned to me as I had not included a photocopy of my driving license. The wording on my fixed offence notice was "it is recommended that you include a photocopy etc." I chose not to send it as it is not mandatory.
I rang up the inspector to investigate and yes - I do not have to send a copy of my license - it makes their job easier.
So I went back to my local plodshop and handed the sergeant my original notice, my letter sending the original notice and cheque back to me, my cheque and the non prepaid envelope.
I told the sergeant that I have complied with their requirements, I will not be paying for another stamp and left the lot with him.
He tried giving it back to me but I refused to take it. His argument was that he had no way of issuing a receipt - I told him I did not want a receipt - just put a stamp on it and post it. As I left he said that he was leaving it on the counter - and with that he shut the window.
Talk about public service. I pay all these peoples wages through taxes. I'm not adding to an Posts coffers as well.
Whilst I may not be feeling "community minded" right now that is my choice- it is not down to me to pay two loads of postage to make their life easier.
You may ask why I'm being a tad belligerent - easy - a work colleague got stopped for exactly the same thing - plod says "cor is that one of those new xyz phones", looked at it and let him off.
Both of us are guilty of the same offense for slightly different reasons but guilty nonetheless. I was polite, admitted the offense immediately, was given no benefit of the doubt or opportunity to present my vehicle with two fitted car kits......
Two tier slapdash policing - I'm buggered if I pay for a second stamp.
Phew - rant over!!!!
