Garage Conversion - early 1980's

Does anyone know what the situation is with a garage conversion that was done back in the early 1980's?
It wouldnt be covered by the Building Regulations, but do I need to have copies of the Planning Permission? do you need Planning Permission to convert a garage?
Do I need to get an Architects Certificate of Compliance or exemption if I am selling?

Hi,

I doubt you would need planning permission but you can check on . I'm just buying a house and the whole thing was held up cos the seller didn't have a cert of exemption for an extension that didn't need planning permission so I think you def need one if you are selling.
