Game "scratch cards" by post..

Can anyone throw any light on the following -

I received a letter addressed to me enclosing four scratch cards as part of a promotion. The letter had a person's name, their working title and the name of the games promotion company was listed as the letterhead. It also gave a box number in Laois and a customer service line to phone.

Anyway, scratch, match the usual symbols, make the usual premium rate call and return the winning cards to the address enclosing a sae which I did on 19th January. Apparently I had won a holiday; a holiday voucher; and a DVD.... couldn't resist claiming them..

I photocopied everything before I posted it off and since then I have heard nothing. I have phoned the number on two occasions and written to the company at the box number - on both I got an answering machine - I duly left a message asking for my call to be returned but haven't heard anything.

I am just wondering can anyone throw any light on this? If it is a scam I would like to expose it - if it is legit. I would love a little sunshine in my life.

What is the company name? Have you tried searching for it and the word "scam" maybe?

I was reluctant to name the company here just in case - I did a search on google but nothing came up - any further ideas?

As I said I'm just curious - it seemed quite legitimate at the outset as my name was on the letter and sent by post to my home address but as they are being so quiet I'm wondering is it a scam and if so how to expose it. The prize was validated by phoning a 1580 number.

It's probably legit - for a certain value of "legit".

The "scam" usually involves them giving you a voucher entitling you to a small amount of money off of a holiday that costs more than it should. Then you'll be cruxified with ancillary costs as well.

I'd chalk it down to experience if I were you.

As its a premium rate number you can make a complaint to Regtel ([broken link removed]....


They seem to be quite effective with complaints from what I hear...
