Try this...
Open Internet Explorer:
Tools >Internet Options >Privacy
click Edit, type gmail.com, click "Allow"

Shut down and restart Outlook and try sending mail.

If that doesnt work are you behind a personal firewall or a proxy?

Re: gmail

Are you sure that account is POP-enabled? ('cause if your other gmail is going through, it sounds like the problem is not with Outlook Express...)

Log in to the gmail account and check your settings page under the 'Forwarding and POP' tab.

Re: gmail

When did gmail add POP support? I missed the announcement; very handy!

I think your problem may be that they only support "secure" (SSL encrypted) POP, whereas you are trying to use the original unencrypted POP.

To fix this go into your Outlook POP account settings.
Go to advanced and tick "This server requires a secure connection". If you've done it correctly the POP3
port should also change from 110 to 995.

thanks for suggestions folks, have tried suggestions made and I also reconfigured. gmail is now getting into O/Ex.
many tks
