Funeral expenses

Friend's mother has just died. She was in receipt of illness benefit. She has a few grand in the bank and a ten year old car. She will be entitled to small death in service benefit from public service only worked there for about 15 years. Think she paid avc which stopped last year when she went off salary.

Questions

Can they got to bank with funeral bill and get it paid
Will death in benefit be paid out no will husband 3 sons
Can they sell car
Do they have to go to probate
