I am a full time mother with obviously no pension fund. My husband also has no pension and feels we cannot afford to pay into one at the moment as we have only one salary and a high mortgage. I am 32 and he is 36. At this stage what should we be paying into a PRSA. And is it possible that we have a joint PRSA that we can both benefit from in retirement. I know absolutely nothing about pensions but am starting to worry now for our retirement.
Any advice on this would be very much appreciated.
[broken link removed] is a good place to start. It shows a pension calculator which would you see what needs to be done now. Don't forget its never too late to start.
If you husband is in full time employment then it is a legal requirement for the employer to provide access to a PRSA at the least, but they may operate and defined benefit/ defined contribution scheme, he should check that out
