Full System Scan taking ages

Hi everyone,my father has a Dell Dimension 2400.It has Norton security 2007 which I put into it last December at the same time as I installed it on my own desktop(Dell 3000) using a 3 user installation disc.The full system scan on his computer takes absolutely ages 6 hours and approx 400,000 files scanned!!! On my own computer it takes 1hr50 mins to scan 1,030,000 files.As I write this his computer is being left overnight otherwise Norton keeps nagging about the full system scan.........most annoying as I'm trying to teach him the importance of reading what the computer tells him.This of course leaves to the inevitable phone call from afore mentioned parent.Any suggestions please?

Just a quick update.I discovered that there was 2 extra drives installed in the computer.The Norton was scanning these drives first and leaving the main(c\) until last.
