I am heading to Fuertaventura/Lanzarote for a holiday in March, is it worth my while looking at property there, initially for rental and then to use as a holiday home when I retire(in about 15 years) or would my time be better of spent lying on the beach. Any advice would be appreciated. If I am wasting my time in the Canaries any advice on buying a holiday home would be appreciated. Apologies if this has been asked before as I am knew to this forum.
 
I think you answered your own question "i am heading out for a holiday" - an investment should be taken seriously. Remeber if you are going to spend a couple of hundred thousand euro dont do so on a whim.
 
mighn't be much on fuerteventura but it's a) closer than cape verde b) a/l have direct flights weekly c) ryanair have 3 return flights weekly d) its appears to be cheaper than cape verde and just has to be more developed at this stage
having said that I was tempted too but don't really see any appreciation in property there and in those 15 years you would have to pay tax on deemed rental, local taxes and upkeep. 15 years seems a long time to hold for retirement. for what its worth if you booked return flights with a/l and booked an hotel or apartment direct for a weeks holiday you can easily do it for less than €500 for two. and thats half board in a good hotel. after I found that out I went cold on the idea of buying.
 
I have to say that ive been on quite a few sun holidays and fuerte is by far the best !....as a result we have gone there for the last 5 years in a row. If I had the cash myself I would definitely invest in a little place in Corralejo. You should go in March and lie on the beach by all means - check out the amazing dunes at Olivia beach, a view that will be hard to match !, but if you are considering seriously buying over there, you should take in some day trips to get a better idea of what the island has to offer you. There are quite a few estate agents on the island which may be worth a visit in March if you have the time. I recommend going down to Jandia, which is quieter than that main town of Corralejo and is supposed to have the best beaches on the island. ( all the beaches are gorgeous ). You should check out www.fuerteventura.com, which will give you all the info you need. I usually check this site in the weeks before my holiday there just to update myself on whats going on .

Yeh Smiler there is a section quite a good stretch down the beach that is nudist, but we never saw them. What didnt you like about Corralejo ?, we usually go last week in May first week in June before the crowds and it is lovely. I suppose a sun holiday is different for everyone. Im not a good one for crowds and like it at that time of year because there is enough people to make it a buzzy place but not too much that its uncomfortable. We took a break one year and headed off to Lanzarote and I hated it there, so much that we actually took the day trip back to Fuerte !. This year though, we will be staying in Ireland. I would recommend it though, maybe in the '90's it was only up an coming.

firstly, don't spend a holiday thinking of an investment as it will only be wrecking your holiday.FUERTEVENTURA is worth a consideration,it offers lots from direct flights from Dublin with both aer lingus and ryanair and ryanair in further discussions with the airport for up to 6 more routes and many more low costs including easy jet and jet 2 and also air berlin in the fold for more routes.The climate in fuerte is superb and population is growing rapidly and along tight building restrictions in areas like corralejo. fuerte can only mean future demand.as medium term investment Fuerte seems a good bet especially if your planning for personel use of your investment property.

There is a great variety of restaurants to choose from which cater for all types of palate from tapas - chinese. Favourite of ours was the Argentinian Steak house in the old town. Absolutely massive steaks and starters the size of main courses !, cheap enough as well. You should pick up a copy of 'the grapevine' its a local magazine that lists all the places to go. Also try Slowboat & Slowboat 2 Chinese restaurants on the main street and in the Atlantico Centre. All you can eat buffets for about €10 each. If you fancy some tradition canarian paella, try a place called El Pescadora - this is down in the old town in a place called 'Music Square' I got a gorgeouse seafood paella that hasnt been beaten yet. Actually any of the restaurants in Music Square are nice, you can enjoy your meal and watch the street entertainers and jugglers keep you entertained while you eat ! Another good place to go is Don Camillo on the main street - their Carabonnara is very tasty. Finally, the beach front restaurant Waikiki Beach is very enjoyable and the view of the sea is fantastic.

there was still 1c flights out available earlier today on saturday 24th feby. no cheap returns though
 
justsally. it was ryanair ( of course) flights are at 6am ( unfortunately) three times a week but they go way way over the aerlingus price as the plane fills us. a/l fly on saturdays for €39each way plus taxes and if you go to the hotelscomparison site you will find accommodation no bother. a/l also go up during midterm breaks/easter etc and as the plane fills up. there was flights out and back on the ryanair website last friday night for 1c each way on loads of dates during february and march but they are all up to around €50 now.
 
try www.skyscanner.net . Its gives you the difference prices for different days for different airlines. Also a great site if you want to get away and are flexible on the destination and date.
 
that 1c flight out on 24th feby is still on the ryanair website up to 1 min ago. but it shows on skyscanner as over €70. you pays your money as popeye sezzz.
