A couple of months ago a door to door sales rep introduced the concept of frozen foods delivered to your door to me and I bought a box of cod and a box of lemon sole off him. For now I will not mention the name of the company.
Today I defrosted 2 lemon soles and right now I am furious.
I bought a box of 2 kg. I weighed it and incl the box it was indeed near enough two kilos.
This morning when I took out 2 specimen I weighed them and they weighed 215 g each. Now they have defrosted and they are 115 g each.
That is 100 g of water or 100/215= 47 % water and 53% lemon sole.
On the box it clearly states 92% lemon sole and 8% water.
Of course my first reaction was to go back to the company and I will, but I would like to know if they have breached any regulations, so the company can be reported , as it is obvious to me this is not an "unfortunate mistake" or a "one off".
The price is 60 euro for the box, so in effect I have paid € 56 per kg for frozen fish.. I don't like to use the term ripped-off easily , but I am pretty sure this would be correct usage.
