Hi All,

I've been in the Hedge Funds industry for just under 4 years now and am looking to make a change. Having just bought a new apartment, Il probably want to stay in Ireland for at least another 3 years.

Im due to finish my ACCA exams in Dec and will be looking for another job early next year.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any experiences of any Hedge Fund Managers in Dublin. I dont believe there are too many but would love to get an idea of what companies are out there so that i can start applying early or at least have an idea of where id like to go.

Id probably be looking to start in the middle office and go from there.

Its extremely diffculy to make jump from middle office to front office, you have to be spectacular. You would have better chance working in the UK register with www.michaelpage.com and start applying for work in london

Well I work as front-office trader in Dublin after one year in fund admin so it can be done. Love it as it's far more exciting than fund admin

Not many front-office jobs in Dublin though, London may be your best bet. I hope to go there once I get two years experience in my current job.

Here's a extremly useful website

Sorry for the off-topic, but what are the chances of someone without a financial/business qualification getting a position in a hedge fund company - would experience in another industry combined with a demonstrated track record in stock trading be sufficient to interest one of these companies?

Hi micmclo,

When u moved to front office, where you startin off at scratch again (entry level)?

Also, do u know of any websites that show Fund managers in Ireland? I've had a look around on a few different sites and found this page
http://www.ifsconline.ie/cgi-bin/directory/hedgef.pl?query=HedgeF

Im not sure if this covers them all but thought its at least a start.

As mentioned above, moving to London isnt really an option for me (at the moment), but id love to get into a position now as if i leave it another couple of years, i imagine the drop in salary will make it a less likely career move.

I dont believe it is too difficult to get into a Fund Admin company. There are so many jobs at the moment that im noticing there are many people without business degrees in various companies.

Im not too sure about Fund Management companies though, but i would presume that stock trading experience would be an favourable attribute.

Yes, I'm a junior trader. Progression to senior trader takes to 2-3 years. You could say I'm entry-level but then I was only a junior fund administrator for AIBBNY because I was only there one year. Also, got a hefty fairly wage rise when I started as a trader. I'm not long out of college and wouldn't have the experience or salary that you have.

Your link is pretty good, but all those company's are fund administrators. I work as a trader for a bank, and I'm not sure would fund administrators have a front-office trading section.

As regards moving from back office to front-office, it isn't that hard. You'd want a bit of confidence as you'll be on the phone to clients and funds all over the world and can get shouted at if something goes wrong.
Main thing in my interview was to have an interest in financial markets. If you read the Sunday Business Post or dabble in shares, you're half way there.
