Fridge from Hotpoint

Just wondering if anybody might be able to help me. My fridge is just over 3 years old and recently broke down, i rang Hotpoint where they told me it would be over a week before they could send an engineer out to repair it, they also charged me a call out fee of €95 which I had to pay as I needed my fridge. That was about 3 weeks ago and now the same problem has occurred again. It will take them another week to send an engineer out, which means no fridge and all food in it destroyed. Am i entitled to a new fridge or do i have to wait a week for it to be repaired and the same problem to happen again? All help greatly appreciated..

Should they not have to replace the fridge as the compressor they replaced 3 weeks ago is now gone again. There is also a 5 year warranty on the fridge. I would rather not claim on my house insurance if I can. Hotpoint said they would only replace it after 12 months and not 3 years down the line. Are they able to do this?

Kazza, if there's a five year warranty on the fridge then they would be obliged to provide the part free of charge. If the warranty covers parts and labour then they should also repair free of charge. Check the small print as I had a washing machine with a five year warranty but it only covered the UK.

Standard white goods waranty is 1 year labour, 5 years parts. You're unlikely to get a replacement after the first 12 months. You may however not have to pay a call out charge on this service call as the first serviceman obviously did not solve the problem. Not much comfort to you given the delay and food damage but appliances aren't built like they used to be!

Hi

If you were only charged €95 then you were not onto Hotpoint Service, a friend of mine had a problem with one of her Hotpoint appliances, and was charged €114, she found them to be very efficient, and was not waiting a whole week.

as above, most white goods are 1yr service 5 years parts. So after the first year, if you call out an engineer you have to pay the charge (be it 95 or whatever), but if he does any work, that work is covered for another 12 months so you shouldnt have to pay. Confirm with hotpoint first though,

a neighbour of mine also had to pay €114 for a call out with a visa card prior to the guy calling out, however i understand hotpoint/indesit now have independly appointed service guys now, so perhaps they might be cheaper.

what work was done to the fridge? the invoice should state this, also what were the test readings, insulation and ecc, what was recorded temperture both internal fridge and outside ambient temp?

was thermostat changed, or compressor change,
is it a frost free?
what exactly is wrong now?

regardless of warranty which is a bonus, your rights come from the sales of goods and supply of services act 1980, you may need to contact the firm who sold you the product which now appears to be broken, they sold you something which did not last a reasonably length of time, 3 years is not a reasonable length of time.
Not cooling?, partial cooling? internal area warm?
