fridge freezer issue

I have a hotpoint fridge freezer which has been here since 2004. The hinge dropped on it last year and my friend reversed the hinge. I defrosted it two months ago and it is frozen up again. The freezer high temp light as been on since thursday. The dial that changes temp is indecipherable and despite my changing around either side and leaving overnight won't go off! The fridge is not integrated but is in a kind of cupboard which is very tight for a new one. I'm assuming the various issues mean end of life?

Probably end of life, 12 years is not too bad for a fridge freezer.
Getting all the things fixed you mentioned is probably beyond your standard DIY'er, and cost wise not money well spent either.

Wouldn't expect too much of a problem fitting a new one though as those units tend to be standard sized (ignoring the American-walk-in-style fridge freezers).
That's assuming you can pull it straight out of the current cupboard.

Yeah I can...but the height is an issue. Basically it was boxed in. No room even for circulation. All the other appliances are silver and a row so would look odd if other colour. My mate took off the plinth to see if could get more height but still need about 1cm at top before cupboard. And I start a new job Tues so need this!

ah. had similar problem in previous kitchen where height was the problem.
Ended up visiting the curries', power city, harvey norman's, etc of this world with a tape measure until a found the right one.
You should be able to get quite a good selection in silver though...

Mam, me and the tape measure did the rounds...only two suitable in each place. Did substantially better. Power City only pick up from front of house..yeah because at 8 1/2 st I can really move a fridge....

I could have got one for 309 but got frost free for 379. Hope worth it!

frost free is defo worth it....
Surprised that power city says they only pick up from front of the house but maybe their policy.
Washing machine died on me a year ago (they are heavy), and was only about 20 quid or so extra to have the chaps from curries do all the lifting and disconnecting plus putting the new one in place and connect it up. well worth the money.

Ended up buying from DID. No extra.

The dishwasher isn't drying, the washer dryer isn't drying, the ensuite is leaking, cooker hood mot working...feels like falling apart!

Just beware that the lack of circulation space around the fridge freezer will shorten it's life. These need to dump heat out the back, the less air circulating here, the harder the appliance has to work to maintain internal temperatures, and that also costs you more in electricity.

Yeah I know....my friend advised me of that. The problem is that there's nowhere else to put it. It's a long kitchen and the house came with it and it's boxed in

My zanussi arrived today...must say bit of downgrade on hotpoint. Looks a bit cheaper only and still humming away. .but at least I have a working fridge. Higher but thinner so venting ok.

Still humming....seems to click on and off. Is this normal?

Washing machine and dishwasher next week. Oh the days when money went on shoes and clothes!

Seriously think there's a market for hiring someone to sit in for deliveries. Am in new job only two weeks so can't be taking half days. Last time I asked my dad to come up but he decided to redesign whole house and was minutes away from demolishing walls.

OP, think your father has done the rounds. A load of people have fathers like that !
