Free Travel Insurance - am I covered?

Got a bit of a funny question - I am an Irish/New Zealand citizen currently living in NZ. I booked a short holiday to Australia and used my NZ credit card. With my credit card I get free travel insurance.

I am meant to fly in a weeks time but there has been a death in my family and I need to fly back to Ireland. According to the travel insurance I am not covered for the trip to Australia as they tell me I am only covered if my relative resided in New Zealand. They advised that I could put in a claim if I want but that it is unlikely to be covered.

Financially I just can't afford to loose thousands of dollars on the trip to Australia and spend thousands more dollars on a flight back to Ireland.

Any advice is appreciated.

Credit card travel insurance usually only covers the bare minimum of trip booked on the card.... I presume anything over the cost of the flight to Australia would be covered...

can't hurt to ask of course....
