Any recommendations from a free email account than can be accessed through Outlook/ Outlook Express

I have a small network of 6 computers andwould like to be able to (mostly) send emails internally without having to purchase hardware or software (if possible)

Since the network has a braodband router thought email accountsusing outlook would be cheapest and easiest

Any other suggestions appreciated as I am not technically gifted in this area

You can send and receive e-mails with outlook using a Yahoo account.

I do it myself.

if you only want mails to be sent internally within your network then you would have to get a small mail server client - if you want to be able to send mails externally you could sign up to any of the isp's that give free email addresses such as eircom.net

You can send and receive e-mails with outlook using a Yahoo account.

Could you post the settings required to set up the account in Outlook

Server name,etc

set up a free account with eircom.net. then all you have to do in outlook or outlook express is go to 'tools' then 'accounts' then add a new account. fill in your new username and password when prompted, then when prompted for incoming and outgoing mail servers put in mail2.eircom.net for both. bobs yer uncle.

This should do it:

Configuring External (POP) Mail Accounts in Yahoo! Mail
You can configure Yahoo! Mail to retrieve messages from most external mail accounts to which you have POP access. An account with POP access is one that you are able to access through an external email client such as Outlook, Eudora, or Netscape Mail.

Follow the instructions below to add settings for a new external (POP) mail account. Yahoo! Mail can store settings for up to three different accounts at one time.

1. Click the "Mail Options" link on the top right-hand side of the screen, and then choose "Check Other (POP) Mail" located under the Mail Management column on the Options screen.

2. Click the "Add Mail Server" button.

3. Enter your external (POP) mail server's name, your user name and password for that external mail account, and the port number for the mail server.

* If you don't know the name and port number of your mail server, you'll need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Network Administrator for help tracking down this information.
* Your user name for your external mail account is usually the first part of your external mail address (before the '@' sign).
* Your password is whatever you use to access your external mail account and not necessarily your Yahoo! password.
* Currently, you can't configure Yahoo! Mail to retrieve messages from a web-based email account such as a RocketMail or another Yahoo! Mail account that has been set up for POP access.

Yahoo! Mail Support doesn't know and can't provide you with the server name, port number, user name, or password for your external mail account. For assistance tracking down this information, contact your ISP or Network Administrator.

4. Use the "Leave Mail on POP Server" option to specify whether messages retrieved to your Yahoo! account will also remain in your external mail account or whether they will be deleted from your external mail server.

5. Use the "Retrieve new messages only" option to specify whether Yahoo! Mail retrieves only the new messages in your external mail account or all messages.

6. Use the "Download to Folder" option to specify a location where the retrieved messages will automatically be placed in your Yahoo! Mail account. By default, your Inbox is selected. Choose any of your other folders by selecting one from the pull-down list.

7. If you use filters, place a check in the "Use Filters" checkbox to run all messages retrieved from your external mail account through your Yahoo! Mail filters. Any messages that are not filtered will be placed in the folder you choose next to "Download to Folder."

8. The color you choose next to the Indicator option will be used to mark all messages retrieved from your external mail account. This will help you distinguish the messages retrieved from your external mail account from the ones sent directly to your Yahoo! Mail account. If you retrieve messages from more than one external mail account, you can select a different color for each of them.

9. Click the "Save" button to save your new settings. This will return your browser to the main external mail page.

To retrieve your messages from an external mail account, click the appropriate server name on the left-hand navigation bar (you may also check your external mail account(s) by clicking on the "Check Other Mail" link on the left-hand navigation bar). Messages from the selected server will be retrieved to your Yahoo! Mail account.

Yahoo! Mail will retrieve messages from your external (POP) mail accounts only when you request it.
