Hi all,
Looking at booking city break for next month. Looking at Ryanair website and they have v cheap flights to Frankfurt - €10 or €45 return Fri to Sun depending on flight times.
Would people recommend it as a place to go? We're basically looking for somewhere that has few things to do and see, decent bars and restuarants etc.
Any advice on hotels?
Thanks a million! :)

You do know that the airport ryanair fly to is about 2 hours (by bus ) away from Frankfurt itself. It isn't the main Frankfurt aiport but is one called Frankfurt-hahn. only found this myself after booking. Decided to go somewhere nearer to airport so went to a place called mainz which is about an hour about by bus instead. had a very good weekend break there - was busy because during the time of the Xmas markets

Thanks for that. Figured airport wouldn't be that central - its Ryanair - but didn't realise was that far away. Must look into Mainz so. Cheers for that.
Wonder is it worth travelling the extra to go to Frankfurt?

I'm sorry to say it really not worth the long journey I have visited it but only to visit family. Perfectly pleasant city but so many other nice places to visit in Germany and around Europe.

"great place for hookers "

I didn't realise they had either a fishing industry or a decent rugby team...

Dreadful place, full of high-rise banks and the centre is stone dead at night. Not much to do there. Went once and wouldn't bother again.

we went to a place called Trier also about an hour by bus from Hann airport and it was a lovely place. I would recommend it for a weekend.

Frankfurt s quite but is a very nice city (partci along the river). Not too expensive considering is the financial capital of Europe (can smell old money) and Germans are stereoptyoped as dour but most are polite, friendly and can even be a bit of crack after 10 big Weissbiers!

I wouldnt go back, went there for a weekend (Xmas present) and ended up getting the train to amsterdam, its a nice place just dead at night.

Frankfurt has the skyscrapers and great museums, Wiesbaden has the 19th centuary spas, casino and villas ( all unbombed during WWII) and Mainz is comfortable Helmut Kohl country , great craic ( especially during carnival ) . The cities are on the same suburban rail systen and within 30mins of one another . While there visit Eltville wine village on the Rhine. I would stay in Mainz (cool studenty) or Wiesbaden 19th centuary chic , Frankfurt is not my favourite, but is worth a visit.

If you are flying in to Frankfurt, I would suggest visiting Heidelberg its about 90 mins from airport, its a very pretty city, full of great bars and restuarants. Definitely recommend it for a weekend.

I'd second that. Frankfurt is not very exciting but Heidelberg is a short train journey away.
