Form F11E Question

I am a PAYE worker who does enough on the side to warrant filling form 11E. I have been doing it the last few years and it freaks me out. Hate filling the forms. Anyway my question is about my expenses and what I can claim.

In motor expenses can I claim by the kilometer? or just by whatever it costs in petrol.

In other expenses can I follow the guidelines of the flat rate expenses that the revenue have on their site? For example I do some teaching at times and teachers have a flat rate expense presumably for clothing etc...the same goes for say woodworkers...

Also if I am going from my PAYE job to another private job and I need to stop for some food is that a legitimate expense ? and again if there a flat rate for that sort of thing?

I will be seeking out professional help but the last time I did they told me it's so simple filling this form that you are wasting your money...so I just freak out every year and probably pay too much tax.

Thanks

I would suggest that you get help with at least one year's accounts and tax return, so you are sure you are doing it right.

As self employed you have to calculate the running cost of your car in full - all petrol costs, insurance, road tas, repairs, services, MOT etc, and apportion based on your business mileage over total mileage for the year. Mileage rates are only for employees.

You can't claim flat rate expenses - there are only for employees. You can only claim expense wholly and exclusively for your business.

Food - as you need to eat to live, you can't claim for the cost of meals, subject to certain conditions, e.g. if you are traveling to a job that is a long way away, and you do not usually do this type of journey.
