Foreign Driving license

I plan to get my first car at the age of 27, with no driving experience, and no intention to get the full license untill I have a few months experience.

For insurance and actually being able to drive legally, I'm totally dependent on my girlfriends full license which she got in Slovakia 10 years ago

Can someone confirm if she needs to get an Irish license as my friend has suggested?

If not are there any advantages for her to exchange for an Irish license

Hi Cat thanks for your reply, was getting desperate for a while

She's being here 6 months

from the link above, I've taken the following
"If you have a driving licence issued by an EU/EEA member state you can drive in Ireland as long as your existing licence is valid. If you wish to exchange your driving licence for an equivalent Irish driving licence, you must do so within 10 years of your driving licence expiring"

It doesn't say anything about having to,

Does anyone know if there are advantages to doing so?

I found that my quote was 300 euro cheaper when i put I have an Irish licence and not an EU one.
