If you do a lot of city 2nd gear driving then more ware. 50 to 60k KM seems pretty good to me. Brake pads are cheap fitting is easy for any mechanic as long as you don't use main stealer. Don't mess with brakes if they need doing then get em done.

Not necessarily - it depends on driving style, but pads are specifically designed to wear faster than shoes. Pads / discs also stop you quicker. A car will probably get through 3 or 4 sets of front pads to every set of rear pads - most of the braking is at the front.
