Ford Fiesta - battery light staying on

firstly - i know nothing about cars. i got a new battery about xmas time. no problems. until last week. the battery light comes on as normal when starting up but now stays on all the time. the car turns over everytime without incident. never a problem in the morning or evening. i did a long drive over the weekend - mayo and back to dublin - i was told this may recharge the battery but to no avail. has anyone got any ideas?

I think the battery light comes on when the battery is NOT being charged ie a problem with the alternator which is meant to charge to battery (seems unlikely given that you do not have a problem with battery discharging) or with lamp/indicator - best to have it checked in a garage

Could be alternator, a loose belt, or a faulty battery.

Could even be a drain somewhere in the electrical system.
