Football-proof plants and shrubs !

Hi
Our garden measures circa 15m x 20m wide with 2.4m high block walls all around. I have laid a perimeter planter bed with a kerbed edge all around and now want to plant some hardy shrubs and plants that will give lots of colour all year around if possible, hide some of the block walls and of course take the wear and tear of the kids playing football nearby.
Can anybody recommend what plants to try - I really have no idea and maintenance is not one of my strongest traits. Thanks.
 
Maybe Pyracanthia would do the trick ?

Its evergreen all year around, has hardy thorns and grows fast and strong keeping kids and footballs away. It has red berries in winter whch feeds birds and flowers in summer. The only downside is you may need to prune it a lot. From personal experience I planted a few of these and they grew really quickly so I had to take a saw out.
