Food processor makes paste?

Other than chopping and slicing vegetables, can a food processor be used to make smooth pastes like ginger-garlic paste?

Yes, but a pestle and mortar can get a better result as it crushes not shreds - takes a lot longer though.

And a food processor may not be ideal for making small batches of stuff like that.

I wanted fine paste like u can do with blenders...do people actually use pestle and mortar these days? I was going to get a new blender but thought if a food processor can make fine pastes then i will go for it...

The food processor is not good for fine pastes, especially in small quantities. The best thing is the small mill of the Kenwood chef (that assumes you have a Kenwood chef, and they are pricey beasts). Blender is second best, as long as you are prepared to keep pushing the ingredients down.

Would a [broken link removed] not do the job also in a cheaper, quicker and handier manner.

Dunnes Stores have hand blenders for 9.99 Euro.

That wont break the bank and I love mine. I make healthy fruit smoothies a couple of times a week. The only downside is it can be messy if theres no sealed compartment where the blending occurs but I have managed to cope by using a container with a narrow opening and as I said it didn't break the bank so I'm very happy.

I have the hand blender and it does the job, but the jar that came with it broke. So i have to use another container and sometimes it does get messy. Anyways I bought a new blender , so it should be fine. I asked about the food processor as I thought if it does the job for about 20-30 euros more, i can save time and energy chopping vegetables. Just plain lazy.
