Hello all,

Looking at a potential place that overlooks the Dodder by Donnybrook Bus Station (seperated by two pavements and Beech Hill Road). I know this river is prone to flooding in bad weather, but only in certain areas. Does anyone know if this section would be affected?

Thanks!

I don't remember/know of that area flooding, lower down in Ballsbridge, RDS and the cottages have certainly flooded, during Charlie. A couple of weeks ago the Dropping Well was almost flooded. These were call caused by trees getting stuck under downstream bridges and backing up. So look at the how close the bridges are to the house and imagine the flow of water if they got blocked.

Re: Flooding in Donnybrook...

No, never heard of flooding on the beach hill side - the town side has been flooded a little last time I think.

Re: Flooding in Donnybrook...

two ways of actually finding out if the place flooded.

Talk to council, flooding division. I spoke to a guy that had been there 30 years and was able to pinpoint exactly which parts of a certain road had flooded and when.

Talk to insurance company; they will able to tell you from their records if any area has flooded or not

It might be worth taking a look at the historical data provided by the OPW online

Re: Flooding in Donnybrook...

I remember Anglesea road flooding a good few years back, maybe thirty years ago. All the big houses along the river side of Anglesea road had skips outside, lots of carpets etc destroyed.
If you live near a river, you stand a good chance of being affected by floods at some time.

Re: Flooding in Donnybrook...

Thanks guys - off to see it in half an hour, so will ask about the flooding potential with the agent too. You're right though, you do run these risks living by a river...
