Does anyone think flight prices will come down from Dublin or are they dependent on the cap. Think flights generally have got a lot more expensive in 2024 v 2023. The way its looking 2005 prices might become exorbitant.
Source: Daily Torygraph.Ryanair is to cut thousands of UK flights as its chief executive blamed an “idiotic” tax grab by Rachel Reeves.
The airline said it would cut UK capacity by as much as 10pc next year, equivalent to a reduction of around 5m passengers after the Chancellor announced a rise in air passenger duty (APD), which is levied on flights starting in the UK. Michael O’Leary, the Ryanair chief executive, accused the Chancellor of a short-sighted tax grab he said demonstrated that she “has no clue how to deliver growth in the UK economy”. He added: “Reeves has damaged the UK’s growth prospects and made air travel much more expensive for UK families travelling abroad on holidays or to visit friends and family.
“At a time when Ireland, Hungary, Sweden and many regions in Italy have abolished air travel taxes, Chancellor Rachel Reeves’s idiotic decision to further raise the UK’s already-high air travel taxes will deliver cuts, not growth.”
The Government’s decision to increase air passenger duty by £2 per passenger for short-haul flights means a family of four flying to Spain next year will pay £60 in travel taxes, Ryanair said. Mr O’Leary said regional airports were likely to be “particularly damaged” by the tax rise as reduced passenger numbers lead to fewer flights, higher fares and ultimately job losses. Domestic services would be hard hit because travellers pay APD twice, the chief executive predicted.
He said: “As an island economy on the periphery of Europe, it is vital that the UK lowers air access costs.
Ryanair just announced an 18% drop in profits for H1 on rising passengers but falling ticket prices. It'll be months before we get a sense of the impact the cap, but I can't see O'Leary being so vocal against anything that might work in his favour. Their model is all about volume. In a way it's working to airlines advantage in hiking up prices extortionately versus what the cap is or am I mistaken.
Waiting for the price of a €49 flight to fall seems misguided to me.Last year we were told that this years summer prices would be expensive. He didn't get the volume and we had lots of flash sales throughout the year. Some prices that I paid expensive for, dropped in price.
I have been checking a few destinations for 2025. One location had a price of €49 on it. Every so often I would check this price to see if would drop.....it has increased in price to €69. Yet the same week day on either side of it is still €49.........so their cookies are working overtime.
If I got a flight for 49 euro to a good location I would take it........I would not be in a rush to book accommodation though....Waiting for the price of a €49 flight to fall seems misguided to me.
Well the €49 flights to one of Gordon Gekko's favourite destinations have dropped from €49 to mid €30's.......these are the prices ex Dublin but the return prices are making up for the cheaper outward prices. (March). If I got a flight for 49 euro to a good location I would take it........I would not be in a rush to book accommodation though...
Many hotels have different styles of rooms available.......standard, superior, deluxe, premium etc. However, they often show the same photos on their website for each room. You will often see six photos of a bed or bedside locker or a painting on the wall.....but nil photos of the bathroom available. It is amazing how slow most hotels are in responding to an online query though......especially France.
