fixing skirting to insulated external walls

hi all

we have added internal 38mm foil-backed plasterboard to our external (block) walls with a topcoat finish of plaster

several of the carpenters who are quoting for 2nd fix are uneasy about the best method of fixing (oak/ash) skirting to these walls - normally they would fix directly to block or battens

has anybody any recommendations as to how this has been done?
thanks

gosh - why is this a problem to carpenters? What do they do on studded walls or TF houses? Haven't they heard of contact adhesive??

Studded walls or TF houses have solid grounds at 400 or 600mm c/cs, obviously with a thermal laminate board (presuming dab/ mechanical fix with no grounds) this is a problem. You are pretty reliant on a panel/ construction adhesive like DAP or Gunoprene etc. If required you can use a "knock-in" fitting and scew fix in difficult situations, using something like "Rayfix".

Thinking of adding insulated plasterboard to external walls myself.

Carpenter - can you attach something to the base of the plasterboard prior to fixing it to wall, which skirting board can be later fixed to?

You could fix a timber batten (known as "grounds") to the base of the wall, with its thickness matching that of the insulated board to be used, however this will affect your insulation and resultant u-value obviously...
