Fixing cast iron table

I bought a lovely 2nd hand cast iorn table that has broken. The top has come away from the leg. I had thought that I could get it sauldered bu have been told that you can't saulder cast iorn. Can anyone suggest anything/any way that I could get this fixed?

Cast iron (in the main) cannot be welded, so you're reliant on an adhesive of some kind. An auto supplies shop should be able to supply you with a suitable adhesive- you're going to need something like an two part epoxy, the sort used to repair corroded metal and broken castings. Your local hardware may have some of the epoxy putty used as an emergency plumbing repair- it's grey in colour, dries rock hard and works like metal when set.

Get some Araldite from a DIY store. This is a 2 part compound which is pretty good.

Welding cast iron isn't a problem, especially old quality castings. Any engineering workshop should be able to do the work, but get a price in advance.
