what would peoples opinion be on fixing a mortgage in the present climate?? i am not under any pressure with repayments but if they continue to rise which there are talks of i may come under some pressure, just a query as to peoples opinion??

Have you read the many existing threads on the whole fixed v variable issue? In my opinion don't fix unless you are under pressure with variable reapayments or might be if rates rose by a few percent.

Fix rates are generally higher than variable. So if you were struggling with repayments from a variable mortgage, and you shifted to fixed mortgage you would be paying more on a monthly basis.

I fixed early this year and my rate is now the same as the variable.

Fixing your mortgage will give you pease of mind, it may cost a little more at the moment however there is talk of more rises so you may leave yourself on a better position for the next few years to fix now, a lot of people are fixing now to save any hardship if rates continue to rise, it also depends on what fixed rates your lender is offering at the moment,
