Fixed Position Column extracts from Excel

Anybody know how to generate an ascii file from Excel in a fixed position fomat, as distinct from CSV format ? I want each column to have a specific no. of characters,e.g. Col 1 to be 12 characters, col2 to be 6 characters, col3 to be 12 characters etc.

Have you tried saving as "space delimited" *.prn

This works for me provided I have formatted the cells corectly.

I use a utility called textpad to read the resulting *.prn files which is far better than other text editors.

Right click Column 1 and specify the column width as 12 characters, etc, etc. Then save the file with Formatted text (Space delimited) (*.prn) as the file type. Seems to work.....
