fitting new mixer taps

Hi
the plastic cover on my cold mixer tap in the kitchen has cracked and broken off. I cannot turn on the cold tap. I have bought new tap covers not a mixer set. What do I need to do to fit this, do we need to turn off the cold and hot water. Do we need to turn off something in the hotpress anyother tips on how to fit these covers if they dont fit we may have to fit the whole mixer tap all advice welcome. I hope we can do this ourself.

Hi Coleen,
1 turn off mains (cold off)
2 turn off hot, go to your hot press and at about eye level you should see two red wheeled handled valves, one is for the cold fed to bathrooms/WC. the other is the hot feed. Of those two pipes, the one that enters the very bottom of the cylinder is the hot feed. (you could just turn them both off)
