I'm interested in taking up fishing. However as I have never been before I have no knowledge of where to go. I live in Kildare so somewehre in Kildare/Dublin would probably be the best place to start. Can anyone recommend a good location ?

There is a man made lake in Maynooth where you can go and fish away for a few hours. I think you can rent out what you need there but not 100% sure. Worth checking out anyway.
(I dont have any contact details I'm afraid)

Blessington Lakes shouldn't be too far from you, depending on what part of Kildare you are from. I see plenty of people nearly every day fishing around the lake. You do however require a fishing permit which are available from the local Supervalu in Blessington.

Thanks,

Blessington was the first place that came to mind. I checked it out on the net & found out that I need a permit. Didn't know where to get one - Cheers tallpaul.

That man made lake in Maynooth sounds interesting too. I'll check it out.

For Blessington:

Gyves shop (Tel: 045 – 865153) in Blessington and from the following outlets in Dublin:- Rory’s, Southside Angling, Henry’s Tallaght Gun & Rod Shop and Angling & Shooting Centre. Boat permits are available from the E.S.B. Fisheries Conservation, Hydro Group, Ardnacrusha, Limerick (Tel: 061 – 345588).

(Which reminds me I've only been out once so far this year. Time to remedy that).
