My wife applied for FIS and was told she must work at least 19 hrs a week to avail of this, she works 17.5hrs a week and is applying all the time for a job with more hours but no luck , it seems crazy to think if she worked 1.5 hr more that she would get this benefit when in fact she would have more money in her wages, more money means better chance:( they said she can challenge but is there any point, I on benefit at the moment but had worked last 21 yr out of possible 22yr ans Mrs has always worked,
It feels the only time we have ever looked for assistent and there is no help there, feel very depressed at the moment and also have alot of hate which is not me,

These are the rules, but I agree they are crazy. I do not think an appeal would be of any use.
Someone I know had her hours reduced, and so lost her FIS, as well as having a lower pay. I suppose the original intention may heave been to encourage people to work, but now they are being punished financially when they are already losing out.

Can she not negotiate with her employer to increase her hours to 19 - maybe without extra pay?
