If my wife used to own a house before we were married and has since sold it, but i never have bought / owned a house. Am I considered a first time buyer?

I intend to put up the deposit myself and all mortgage repayments will be in my name only.
 
You are jointly not FTBs for stamp duty purposes. You are a FTB for owner occupier mortgage interest relief purposes and she has whatever might remain of her 7 year preferential FTB relief period left too. A married couple cannot legitimately avoid/evade house purchase related taxes by putting things in the sole name of the FTB spouse. If in doubt talk to your solicitor about such matters.
