First floor balcony

We are planning a balcony on a first floor over garage, under construction. We had originally chosen a concrete floor with cantilever, now wonder about wood instead.
Also, what balustrade? We would like glass which would shelter from west wind from shore. Any ideas?

Hi. Had the same decision to make and went for 150mm solid core + 300 screed + 50mm insulation + rubberised membrane and paviours on bearing pads. Block wall all round 400mm high + coping stone and then stainless steel balustrading and toughened 10mm glass from Galway Stainless 091757927 - expensive but will deal with the salt issue.

Thanks, Ted. Much appreciated. Engineer has been advising wood decking (because of overhang). We will give Galway Stainless a call. We like the idea of stainless steel and glass.
