Fireplace with recessed lights

We are trying to choose the fireplace for new house and have seen fireplaces in the brochures with recessed lights in the mantle at the top and a frosted glass shelf sitting on top. Has anyone seen this done and how does it look in reality? I like the idea but it's hard to tell from the pictures what it will be like.

To be honest it sounds awful. This kind of surround tends to look pretty dated over time. I'd go with something more traditional myself, but that's just me.

i think its more an apartment look! dont like it persoanally! plus you'd have to make sure you had electrics wired around the fireplace!!

My folk bought a house with this kind of fireplace already installed. It was a showhouse. I don't like the look of it also the cable was just left sticking out the side of it and clipped along the skirting to the nearest socket.
I would much prefer spots in the ceiling in front of the chimney breast, I have done this on a few occasions and it looks pretty good
