Fire in Chimney

Because mainly i did not get our chimney cleaned it went on fire recently and what a frightening experience! I know the ideal thing is to use well seasoned dry timber but my problem is what to add to it in order to keep the fire going. Over time i got careless and began adding coal nuggets, briquettes, fresh timber etc. any sugestions would be welcome.

Did you get a camera survey of the chimney done after it went on fire ?

The inside lining of the chimney may be damaged. You need to get it looked at by a proper professional. If it is damaged your insurance company will have to be involved and one of the first questions they will ask you is when did you last get it cleaned.

Thanks for the advice. Believe it or not when i mentioned the chimney fire to some old friends they told me that long ago many people deliberately set fire to their chimneys like the burning of gorse. Needless to mention this was a highly dangerous practice but it shows a different way of life which could have been fatal.
